Need ideas for how to enjoy this beautiful, summery weather? Well, if you want recommendations outside of the usual activities of camping or going to the beach (slathered with sunscreen!), go no further!

DCR Univeral Access Summer Recreation Fair. Don’t miss the DCR Universal Access Summer Recreation Fair at Artesani Park in Brighton on May 30th. Stroll by the Charles River & sign up for summer programs such as sailing, kayaking, hiking and more! There’ll also be adaptive bikes, power soccer & hiking. And you’ll love the face painting, kite decorating, music & snacks. Admission is FREE.

Pestaurant. Think eating bugs is gross? Well, it’s actually supposed to be pretty good for you — and pretty tasty too. Find out for yourself on Wednesday, June 3rd at 1 Faneuil Hall Square, from 11:30am-2:230pm — Ehrlich Pest Control will present a FREE pop-up Pestaurant with an insect-only menu! Try Grasshopper Burgers, Chocolate Chirp Cookies, Mealworm Fried Rice and Boston “Clorm Chowda.” For each person who tries a tasty insect, Ehrlich will make a donation to The Greater Boston Food Bank — so it’s for a good cause!

BPS Citywide Arts Festival. During Thursday, June 4th through Saturday, June 6th (10:00am-2:00pm each day), check out the BPS Citywide Arts Festival.  Tons of Boston Public Schools students will be ready to entertain you with music, dance and theater performances.  Admission is FREE.

Urban Day Hike. Join Trustees Boston for a 10-mile springtime hike on Saturday, June 6th, from 9:00am-4:00pm. Explore Boston’s most beautiful and historic green spaces, such as the Esplanade, the Arnold Arboretum, and Allandale Woods! The hike begins at the DCR Hatchshell in the Charles River Esplanade, and hikers are welcome to join for all or part of this unique urban trek! Participation is FREE but registration is needed.

35th Cambridge Arts River Festival 2015. This year, the Cambridge Arts River Festival will be on June 6th, from 12:00pm-6:00pm, in the Central Square Cultural District. Enjoy an eclectic mix of music performances, dance, family art-making activities and delicious specialty food! Admission is FREE.

Dragon Boat Festival. Come celebrate the 35th Annual Boston Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival on Saturday June 13th & Sunday June 14th, 12pm – 5pm!  Watch 50 teams race each other down the Charles River in brightly colored Hong Kong style dragon boats.  Enjoy Chinese dragon and lion dances, martial arts, traditonal Japanese drumming, Chinese arts & crafts, and all sorts of Asian foods! Admission is FREE.

Volunteer as a Career Mentor for a Youth with a Disability. Easter Seals Massachusetts is seeking Career Mentors to volunteer for a day in July at Bridgewater State University. On Wednesday, July 15th, from 11am-2pm, Career Mentors will meet with participants of the Massachusetts Youth Leadership Forum, a 3-day overnight leadership conference for high school students and young adults with disabilities. ParkARTS Landscape Watercolor Painting Workshops. The Boston Parks and Recreation Department has announced that they will again host eight FREE ParkARTS Watercolor Painting Workshops at five Boston locations this June.  Budding artists ages nine and up, of all skill levels, are welcomed.  All workshops will provide instruction and materials and are held from 12:00-2:00pm, weather permitting. Free Introduction to Fencing. Great for all ages! Learn how to “sword-fight” for FREE on Saturday and Sundays, 10:00am-12:00pm, at 127 Smith Pl., Cambridge, MA, 02138. Call 617-945 9448 to schedule in advance, since these classes are super popular!

South End Open Market @ SoWa. Every Sunday this summer, from 10:00am-4:00pm, head over to 460 Harrison Avenue in the South End!  You can spend hours browsing original art, gourmet food trucks, indie designer clothing, baked goods, local produce and more.  Also check out the SoWA Vintage Market and SoWA Farmers’ Market, also open on Sundays.  FREE admission.

Hatch Shell Events. Almost every weekend through early October, there’s a new fun event at the Hatch Shell (like FREE concerts on Friday nights!).  The Hatch Shell is undergoing some lawn and audio/visual renovations before July 4th, so be sure to check their events schedule regularly!
