Youth & Family Disability Resources: July 2015

July is a busy month! Be sure to enjoy the beautiful summery weather with these events.

Boston Harborfest. Kick off July 4th early with Boston Harborfest! This huge Independence Day festival is happening on July 1st-July 5th in various central Boston neighborhoods. Enjoy fireworks, entertainers, historical reenactments, music, Harbor cruises, walking tours, and Chowderfest! Most events are free.

Volunteer as a Career Mentor for a Youth with a Disability. Easter Seals Massachusetts is seeking Career Mentors to volunteer for a day in July at Bridgewater State University. On Wednesday, July 15th, from 11am-2pm, Career Mentors will meet with participants of the Massachusetts Youth Leadership Forum, a 3-day overnight leadership conference for high school students and young adults with disabilities. ArtBeat. On July 17th and 18th, head down to Somerville for this large and FREE arts festival in Davis Square! There’ll be live music, dance troupes, 75 craft vendors, food and more.

Salem CultureFest 2015. No plans yet for July 18th or 19th? You won’t want to miss this awesome outdoor event in Salem. Expect music, arts and crafts, performances, food, and a great time! Admission is FREE.

ADA 25th Anniversary Celebration. On Wednesday, July 22nd, join the 25th Anniversary celebration of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) at Boston Common! The celebration includes a march, performances, speakers, and lots of family-friendly activities. Best of all, we’ll be there.

Revere Beach’s National Sand Sculpting Festival. This super cool event happens every year and attracts talented artists from all over the world! This year, it’s scheduled from Friday July 24th to Sunday July 26th. Stroll around the beach and admire all the sculpting masterpieces, devour a yummy meal from one of the food trucks, enjoy live entertainment, and learn how to sculpt something yourself! There’ll be fireworks too. What could be better?

Magic 106.7 Family Film Festival. On Saturday nights from July 11th to August 29th, you can watch free movies in the South Garden at the Prudential!  There’ll be entertainment, kids’ activities and giveaways starting at 6pm.

South End Open Market @ SoWa. Every Sunday this summer, from 10:00am-4:00pm, head over to 460 Harrison Avenue in the South End!  You can spend hours browsing original art, gourmet food trucks, indie designer clothing, baked goods, local produce and more.  Also check out the SoWA Vintage Market and SoWA Farmers’ Market, also open on Sundays.  FREE admission.

Hatch Shell Events. Almost every weekend through early October, there’s a new fun event at the Hatch Shell (like FREE concerts on Friday nights!).  The Hatch Shell is undergoing some lawn and audio/visual renovations before July 4th, so be sure to check their events schedule regularly! AND super importantly, the Hatch is hosting the Boston Pops Concert on July 3rd and 4th…you can find all the details here.
