Happy September! We can’t believe the fall is almost upon us, especially with all the summery weather lately. We’ve gathered some resources and activities to welcome the new month and the back-to-school season.

Classics on the Common

Enjoy a FREE movie under the stars with friends and family. Bring your blankets or lawn chairs, sit back and relax. Popcorn and refreshments will be available to purchase. The movie will begin at dusk. The Frog Pond Carousel will remain open until the film starts (admission to the Carousel $3).

Movie schedule: “E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial” (Friday, September 11th), “The Goonies” (September 18th), and”Back to the Future” (September 25th)

YMCA fall teen programs

Whether you want to volunteer your time, practice for the SATs or hang out with your friends, the YMCA of Greater Boston has something for everyone.

Boston Public Library events for children, teens, and adults

All branches of the Boston Public Library hold a variety of free events from exhibits to classes. View their September calendar here at the link above.

Abilities Expo

Experience a wide variety of accessible and adaptive life-enhancing exhibits, workshops covering disability and special-needs topics, and fun hands-on inclusive recreation for all ages and abilities. Every day, the Boston Abilities Expo will feature activities. The event will be held at the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center from September 18th through 20th.

Ellie Bloom Olympics

Athletes of all ages and abilities may participate in track and field events such as running and wheelchair dashes, basketball throws, relay races, and ladderball. Every event is modified so that all who attempt to participate will be successful. Athletes will receive a medal for their achievements. Pre-registration is strongly encouraged to the Ellie Bloom Special Olympics page, or contact (781) 972-1060 or katkins@charlesrivercenter.org

Painting Workshops

Are you feeling crafty? The Boston Parks Department organizes free watercolor workshops for all ages. Contact the Parks Department at 617-635-4505 with any questions about the events.

When: Saturday, September 12, 19, and 26 from 12:00PM-2:00PM

Boston Public Market

Located at 100 Hanover Street in Boston, the Boston Public Market carries locally grown foods, freshly baked treats, and more and offers hands-on training out of a demo kitchen. It’s also open all year!
