Young Entrepreneur’s Project Summer Wrap-Up

Collaboration between YEP and the MRCIt has been a busy few months for the Young Entrepreneurs Project! Thanks to funding from the Massachusetts Rehabilitation Commission (MRC), we have served more youth this summer than ever before!

The YEP team went into MRC offices in Brookline, Worchester, Springfield, and (for the first time) Somerville and Malden to hold Summer Internship Preparation Workshops. These day-long trainings were held for young adults to develop workplace confidence and skills including job etiquette, attire, and conflict resolution. The participants recently wrapped up their eight-week summer internships and attended our Graduation Workshop, where we facilitated group discussions about their internship experiences and how to proceed in their job search. We had a great time working with these youth and hearing about their internship takeaways!

YEP also conducted a 12-session career-readiness course with Special Education students at Boston Public Schools’ Extended School Year summer program. We spent 6 weeks with high-school students at the West Roxbury Education Complex teaching a curriculum that focused on locating and applying to jobs, workplace behavior, and strategies for time management. This was a diverse and energetic group of students who made a lot of progress towards being career-ready – we even had one student submit a job application!

Overall, the summer was very successful for YEP. We were able to adapt our approach and curriculum to a wide variety of abilities and needs, which is helpful as we prepare to teach YEP in six classrooms and three Boys & Girls Clubs starting in September. Thanks to everyone that participated in our workshops, and we are looking forwards to the upcoming school year!
