MHC visits local college, makes the news

MHC meets with American International University

The Springfield branch of Making Healthy Connections visited American International College on Saturday, March 30th for MHC’s annual event focused on nutrition. At the event, youth were offered a hands-on opportunity to cook healthy recipes in an accessible kitchen with Occupational Therapy students from American International College. The event was such a success, it was even featured on the CBS 3 Springfield evening news!

We’ve included an excerpt from the news coverage of the event below, and you can read the full article at this link:

Both participants and organizers told CBS 3 that both the kids and the occupational therapy students benefit from this program.

“The occupational therapy students get real world experience of working with clients in the field,” said Nancy Bazanchuck, the Youth Facilitator for the group. “The kids get out of it the basic essentials of cooking in everyday life.”

“It has helped me out more times than I can count, since I am not the best at cooking,” said Corey Poulia, a peer leader. “Joining here two years ago was one of the best decisions I have ever made in my life.”
