Boston Bruins Foundation Hosts the Mentor Match Program

Mentor Match attends a Bruins gameOn Monday, April 8th, the Boston Bruins Foundation generously invited the Mentor Match program to the TD Garden in order to help run the 50/50 raffle at that night’s game. The idea was that Mentor Match volunteers would help sell 50/50 tickets for part of the game, and half the money raised would go to support the Mentor Match program.

The Bruins Foundation is a longtime supporter of PYD, and we are honored that they granted us this fantastic opportunity to fundraise while enjoying a Bruins game. Due to their generous support through the years, and their dedication to helping local youth with disabilities, the Bruins Foundation will be one of this year’s LEGENDS Awards winners at our upcoming Party 4 Partners benefit event.

More information on the game below.

Dean Bragonier with his menteeThe night was a huge success. Fifteen people attended the game for PYD — four matches and seven staff members — and we sold 50/50 tickets for the first two periods. After the first two periods, we were able to go upstairs to the luxury suites and watch the game from above. And not only did the Bruins dominate the Hurricanes, but the 50/50 ticket sales raised a total of just over $5,000 for the Mentor Match program!

In addition to the money raised, the matches that attended had a great time. The mentees had a fun night out with their mentors, and they were also able to gain experience handling money and interacting with customers. All the mentees and mentors left with smiles on their faces, and for a few of them, it was the very first NHL game that they had ever attended.

Bob Sweeney with PYD matchesAt the end of the night, Bob Sweeney (former Bruins player and current Executive Director of the Bruins Foundation) came down and took a group photo with our mentees and mentors. The entire Bruins Foundation staff was incredibly helpful throughout the night; we couldn’t have left more impressed.

Thank you to the entire Bruins Foundation staff for providing us with this opportunity. That was a night our matches won’t soon forget!
