Usability Tips at pyd.org

Welcome to our website. We have created this site for all types of users with maximum usability and accessibility as our top priorities. Let us know if you have ideas for improvements to the site. Below, we have outlined a few accessibility features and guidelines that may improve your visit with us.

Site Map:

The Site Map page is a complete table of contents and has links to all pages.

Scalable Text:

All text on this website may be enlarged for easier reading. Enlarge the text by clicking on "View" on your pull down menu at the top of your browser. You may make a choice to increase the “Text Size” to “Larger” or “Largest” or “Increase Font” or “Decrease Font.” The way that this choice is described in “View” will be slightly different depending on what browser you are using.

Screen Readers:

Notice the skip navigation link at the beginning of every page. Use it to jump over the global navigation and go straight to the main content of a page.

Local section navigation will follow after all of the content and before the footer navigation. The footer navigation is a collection of miscellaneous links that are identical on all pages.

Consistent Navigation Structure:

At the beginning each page, you will encounter identical links to key pages: four main sections and the home page. These are commonly referred to as “Global Navigation.” Notice the skip navigation link if you are using a screen reader.

Once you have entered one of four sections (About Us, Programs, How to Help or Contact Us), you will find links along the left-hand side of the screen (screen readers will find this after the main content). These are commonly referred to as “Local Navigation.” The local navigation will change from section to section. These links will take you to pages within the section. Occasionally, the local navigation will bring you to pages outside a given section which are closely related.

In addition, if you scroll to the bottom of the any page, you will encounter several miscellaneous links. The most important one is Site Map, which will bring you to a complete table of contents and a link to all pages on the site.
