Parents Group Program (PG)

PYD has formed two parents groups that meet on a regular basis in the Boston and Springfield areas. An additional parents group will meet at the Lawrence site. The goal of the parents groups is to provide support and information to parents as they meet the challenge of helping their children transition to adulthood. The parents groups host discussions, guest speakers, and training sessions on topics such as educational rights, transportation options, assistive technology, recreation opportunities, estate planning, and preparing for jobs and college. Social events are planned by the parents as well. Parents are also encouraged to join Partners Online by completing a parent application in order to have access to other parents of youth with disabilities. Using this exciting online program, parents may connect with each other through email, chats and forums to share resources, advice and friendship.

Age Range Served: Parents who have adolescents or young adults with disabilities ranging in ages from 13-22.
