WE NEED YOU! Mentors and youth with disabilities can meet and stay connected through our exciting new online mentoring program, Partners Online.

Programs Overview

PYD is a pioneer in its delivery of unique mentoring services for youth with disabilities. In addition to its core one-to-one Mentor Match Program, PYD offers multiple innovative and effective group and educational programs that build skills in the areas of independent living, self-advocacy, entrepreneurship and career development and provide opportunities for socialization, leadership, community service, healthy living and participation in the arts. All of these programs provide role models who share their own stories and inspire young people to gain confidence to face their futures. Individual and Group Program Summaries:

Mentor Match (MM)

The Mentor Match Program arranges one-to-one relationships between youth with disabilities and adults who have similar disabilities. The goal of the program is to help young people with disabilities meet their full potential for personal development.

Making Healthy Connections (MHC)

MHC youth enjoy mask making Making Healthy Connections brings together young people with disabilities and/or special health care needs who are interested in meeting others who share similar experiences and want to gain the confidence and skills needed to lead an active, healthy lifestyle.

Partners Online (POL)

PYD staff train youth on computer Partners Online offers a secure online community with forums and chat rooms and much more. The forums and weekly chats bring them together with other youth throughout Massachusetts as well as Mentors, who can offer much needed advice. See what people are saying about POL.

Online Parent Forums give you the flexibility to seek advice and support anytime. There is no better support for you than other parents and our Mentors who have been there.

Education and Training Program Summaries:

Peer Leadership (PL)

Peer leaders attend 3 day training at Babson College The Peer Leadership Program provides opportunities for young adults with disabilities to develop leadership and job readiness skills through involvement in group mentoring and after school community service.

Access to Theatre (ATT)

ATT youth perform at the Boston Center for the Arts Access to Theatre is an inclusive theatre arts program that brings together a diverse group of young people who want to work together to create original productions and perform them for the community.

Young Entrepeneurs Project (YEP)

YEP student and teacher at trade show The Young Entrepreneurs Project is a business program for high school students with disabilities. Students and alumni are encouraged to further their exploration of career, educational and business pursuits with the help of adult mentors.

Parent Groups (PG)

Parent Group participants at an evening dance Parent Groups meet on a regular basis to assist parents of adolescents with disabilities in their efforts to help their children transition to adulthood. The Parent Groups host discussions, guest speakers, and training sessions that help parents network with each other and learn about resources in the community.
