Whether you have a few hours per week, per month or per year, we always welcome volunteers! Our valuable volunteers are the key to our success and our ability to reach as many youth with disabilities as possible.
We could not do it without you!
Here are some ways to lend to PYD your knowledge, talents and desire to help:
- MM and YEP Mentoring: Our greatest need is for mentors for
our youth. Adults with disabilities and adults with business
and career expertise who qualify to be mentors meet with their
mentees once every three to four weeks and remain in contact
weekly by phone and/or email. Although this is the volunteer
opportunity with the greatest time commitment, it is the most
rewarding way to impact the life of a youth with a disability.
If you are interested, please feel free to contact
PYD for more information or go directly to the adult
mentor application on this website to apply. If you'd like
to learn more about mentoring in general and/or find out exactly
what it means to be a mentor in the MM or YEP programs, preview
our Online Mentor Training.
- POL Mentoring: POL is an exciting new program for volunteers that allows adults and youth who cannot meet each other in person on a regular basis to participate in an online mentoring relationship! If you would like to mentor a young person with a disability through chats, instant message sessions and emails, sign up for this unique opportunity by selecting the Partners Online program on the adult mentor application available on this site. If you’d like to learn more about mentoring in general and/or find out exactly what it means to be a mentor in the POL program, preview
our Online Mentor Training.
- Guest Speaking: There are many wonderful ways to share your expertise with our youth in classrooms during regular school hours or during after school or evening hours. All of our programs benefit from the great contributions of guest speakers with varied disability, artistic, educational and career backgrounds. To inquire about guest speaking opportunities, fill out the brief PYD volunteer application form.
- "Mentor for a Day": If you do not have the extra time to mentor a young person, there are many ways to inspire the youth in our group programs. If you would like to be a business plan judge, a mock interviewing partner, a "dress for success" example or a career/higher education panelist, let us know by filling out the brief PYD volunteer application form.
- Help at Events: Our Anything on Wheels event is a wonderful annual opportunity to volunteer by collecting pledges, helping with set up and/or clean up, assisting youth in navigating the course and lots more! We will have additional events at which you may donate items to auction, buy a table, assist with set up and/or clean up, etc., so let us know you if you might be available by filling out the brief PYD volunteer application form.
- You Tell Us! We love to hear your ideas. If you have a particular interest in one or many of our programs or with helping youth with disabilities in general, please let us know by contacting us.
