Kicking Off the 2013 Inclusive Fitness Initiative

Kaela presents an inclusive fitness trainingLast week, PYD’s National Center kicked off the second year of the three year “Inclusive Fitness for Youth” Initiative, funded by the Boston Foundation.

Some readers might remember that in 2012 — the initiative’s first year — PYD worked with the South Boston Boys and Girls Club. This year, PYD selected the Boys and Girls Club of Dorchester and the West Suburban YMCA, both of which had reached out to us in search of disability inclusion support over the past six months.

Preparing for the trainings...

Last week, these two organizations received their first inclusion trainings back-to-back, with about 15 staff from each organization participating. Topics included definitions, overviews, and statistics, etiquette and communication, Universal Design, inclusive outreach and intake, and ADA/Accommodations for nonprofits. We will continue to support them both over the coming months, and provide some technical inclusive athletics and aquatics trainings in collaboration with Spaulding’s Adaptive Sports and Fitness program.

Having two trainings in a row made for an all-hands-on-deck week for the National Center and Mentor Match team, as you can see!

If you have any questions or would like to make a training inquiry, please contact Kaela Vronsky at kvronsky@pyd.org.
