April is Autism Awareness Month, and we focused the resources in our monthly newsletter to reflect the needs of this population. But we know that we also have many participants who do not fall on the Autism Spectrum. Because of this, we have made the resources in our monthly blog post more diverse in order to serve our larger audience.

“Quiet Day” at the Charles River Museum of Industry & Innovation
10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Waltham, the last Sunday of each month.The Charles River Museum of Industry & Innovation hosts “Quiet Day” for children with Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD). During Quiet Day, the museum turns off any exhibit that produces uncomfortable noise levels. Equipment such as sound blocking headphones and weighted blankets will be offered, and a separate space for reducing stimuli will be available.
Admission is $7.00 per adult and $5.00 per child, student or senior, and free for children under 6, active and retired US Military, and Museum members. For more information, email info@crmi.org or call 781-893-5410 or 617-823-5081.
Adaptive Dance with the Boston Ballet
Developed in collaboration with Children’s Hospital Boston, children with Autism or Down Syndrome may attend classes in the Boston studios of the Boston Ballet. The program lasts through May 18th, and is available for children and young adults with Autism. For more information visit The Boston Ballet’s Adaptive Dance Page or email ECI@bostonballet.org.
MFA’s “Beyond the Spectrum” Program
Every Saturday, from 10:30am to 12pm, children ages 8-12 years on the Autism Spectrum can explore the MFA collection with a trained Museum instructor. They then continue to a classroom and create their own masterpiece to take home. One parent or caregiver is required to accompany the child, but is admitted free with each purchased child ticket, and also receives a discount on parking in Museum facilities.

Career Expo for People with Disabilities
CAREERS & the disABLED Magazine is putting on a Career Expo in Boston on April 12th, from 10am until 3pm in the Sheraton Boston Hotel on 39 Dalton St. Come meet with Fortune 500 Companies and Government agencies looking to recruit new talent. You must be at least 18 years old to attend. Please dress in business attire and bring many copies of your resume. This event is FREE to attend, but you must register in advance.

SummerARTS
Enjoy summer classes in singing, music, and instruments, as well as visual art, movement and dance, and creative dramatics. Opening of the Swan Boats
Spring has officially arrived! On April 13th at 10am, Mayor Menino will be joined on the first Swan Boat ride of the year with students from several Boston Public Schools including the Ellis Mendell Elementary School in Roxbury and the Chittick Elementary School in Mattapan. Immediately once the Mayor is done, families and residents can come and take a ride, as well as enjoy face painting in the Gardens.
